Forensic Neuropsychology is a specialist area of neuropsychology. A forensic neuropsychological evaluation involves the application of neuropsychological principles in a forensic setting. This forensic setting includes both civil and criminal litigants and the purpose of the assessment is to address legal issues. Within Victoria, a number of neuropsychological assessments are funded through Legal Aid. Funding for legal aid is often considered if the solicitor forms the view that the applicant’s psychological or psychiatric state: Directly relates to the proposed plea AND Provides substantial exculpatory material likely to lead to a significantly reduced sentence AND Is material that cannot be presented to the court without obtaining the report.
